Frankston is dead. An extremist local Mayor has been voted in, banning musical theatre.
Can two young musical men with a passion for football and jazz ballet convince the townsfolk to reconsider?
What was once a happy-go-lucky outer-suburban ghetto by the sea, has been transformed into a world where the sun doesn't shine and it's no longer legal for straight men to act gay.
A new musical celebrating all things Frankston (yes the good, the bad and the downright ugly) will premiere as part of the 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
I Heart Frankston the Musical is the brainchild of Gerard Lane, a local actor who wanted to write a musical about his beloved home suburb. Starting life as a simple ten minute cabaret devised solely by Lane, the show is now inrehearsal for a full season at The Butterfly Club in South Melbourne after winning the Most Popular Award at the 2009 Short+Sweet Cabaret Festival.
The season will star Frankston musical theatre exports: Gerard Lane and Adrian Portell, and a random girl from Ballarat: Laura Burzacott, under the direction of Bryce Ives.
"It's like Footloose, but with more bogans! It's for anyone who love Football, Frankston and Fosse," said director Bryce Ives.
