Logic is rational. Logic is rigorous. Logic is compete. So why did the greatest logician since Aristotle starve himself to death?
Kurt Godel, a close friend of Einstein’s, was one of the greatest geniuses of our time. He has been called the greatest logician since Aristotle. Godel’s Incompleteness Theorem, his epochal work, revolutionised mathematics. It brought the development of mathematical logic to a crashing halt. It destroyed the life’s work of dozens of other great mathematicians. It called into question our very understanding of truth.
When he died, Godel weighed a little over thirty kilograms. This subtle, and profoundly rational mind starved himself to death. He thought his doctors were trying to poison him.
Inspired by the life and works of Kurt Godel, it is a ride through mathematics from the inside.
