After a critically acclaimed season in San Francisco, Four Larks returns home to Melbourne to premiere The Fate of Franklin & His Gallant Crew.
A junkyard opera which features frozen sailors, laudanum induced encounters with the past, scurvy, cannibalism and haunting music from the deep.
Four Larks’ original piece fuses theatre, installation, live music, spectacle and rum.
In 1850s London, the most famous naval expedition ever to sail from Britain is missing in the Arctic. Lady Franklin, the commander’s wife, desperate that the search for her husband should continue, enlists the help of a famous author to capture the public imagination.
In a Northcote warehouse, audiences will join Charles Dickens, writer and Arctic enthusiast, as he attempts to mount a theatrical extravaganza that will take hold of their hearts as they journey with the unlucky souls who search that frozen deep.

ReviewsA Wonderful Theatrical Adventure
The Fate of Franklin and His Gallant Crew is based on Lord Franklin’s ill-fated arctic expedition to find the Northwest Passage.
A large cast of musicians, singers and actors weave their magic in a new theatrical space created on a shoestring with great style and imagination.
If you are in early you may even get one of the comfy couches to enhance your viewing pleasure! This is a really high-quality theatrical adventure from a great company who I look forward to seeing more work from in the future.
