A brand new theatrical adaptation of the classic tale of Ginger Mick and the Anzacs on the Turkish Peninsula. Blending humour with pathos and written in Dennis’ unique slang it recounts the courage, mateship, and the horrors of War. Returning for a touring season April/May 2007.
With the most unexpected of endings and boasting an exceptional all male cast, “Ginger Mick at Gallipoli” is performed in Petty Traffikers unique award winning style and is a robust energetic piece using mime, song and dance routines from the war era performed in the style of a military concert party. Billo (the Sentimental Bloke), now aged, looks back to the time his best cobber answered “the call of stoush” and “mizzled to the war”.

Bursting with colourful aussie phrases and non stop physical action, this production vividly brings Micks experiences to life as he is wounded in action then returns to the front lamenting the rabbit-like existence of trench warfare. Meet the array of disparate characters unexpectedly thrown together as mates including Keith, “who wears pyjama suits and cleans his teeth” and Digger Smith of Collingwood “wiv fags stuck in his hat”.
It is a surprising and delightfully contemporary production of this important chronicle of Australian history to coincide with the Anzac Day commemorations.

Cast includes Bruce Kerr and Joe Clements and Brendan O Connor.

Ginger Mick at Gallipoli
PETTY Traffickers and director Stewart Morritt have had great success with their production of C.J. Dennis's The Sentimental Bloke. The later verse's tales of Ginger Mick, first published in 1916, put the original Bloke's characteristic irreverent wit at the service of a strident nationalism that was in play during World War I.
