NICA jail birds will tumble through the air and contortionists perform amazing escapes as 40 talented first and second year Bachelor of Circus Arts students from the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) present Do Not Pass Go.

 Do Not Pass Go moves from jail cell to cell and engages with the resident circus inmates. From the silliness of playing cops and robbers through to bizarre and breath-taking leaps to freedom, this production will have you on the edge of your seat as imprisoned performers defy gravity and human ability.

This circus spectacular pumps with fast pace jail escapes, yet affords laughter from the audience with its mischievous humour creating an experience that is both family-friendly and edgy. Do Not Pass Go explores escapism both on the ground and in the air, expressed through each performer’s individual abilities.

The show will feature a huge range of skills, including German wheel, aerial ring, tissu, tightwire, straps, and the much anticipated group bike act. The show will also feature an unusual interpretation of prison-yard exercise, with a handstand performance that will send you upside down.

Do Not Pass Go is directed by NICA’s Performance Teacher and Circus Instructor, Matt Wilson, who has previously performed and directed for Circus Oz, Dislocate, Circus Monoxide, Chamber Made Opera and Rock’n’Roll Circus. Do Not Pass Go gets your heart racing with adrenaline charged escapes, riotous slapstick routines in the mess hall, and gut wrenching emotion in solitary confinement, describes Matt. He explains the show contains many highlights, including an interpretation of an exercise yard that has to be seen to be believed.

The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) is Australia’s only Centre of Excellence for professional training in contemporary circus arts.
