Our Miss Fitson, along with Ladies and Gentlemen, explores the insights of two very different women. Miss Fitson is a retired school mistress, who, in recording a radio interview, reminisces. She has few regrets about her career, at least her perception of it. A kaleidoscope of joyful, even triumphal, memories. Livia Lamplighter, having been forced to retreat from her life as a stage celebrity, sets out to re-invent herself as a celebrity chef. We observe her attempts to prepare a speech for the launch of her first culinary publication, whilst travelling by train to Sydney. A moving and often witty account of this true to life character.

Sir Roger Casement, human rights campaigner and war hero, was hanged in 1916 for his involvement in the Irish Nationalist revolt in Dublin. Though his guilt was never in doubt, George V's Government could not risk making an Irish folk hero and martyr out of him, and so the "Black Diaries of Roger Casement", which expose him as a homosexual, were discovered and released. Within their pages are explicit details of Casement's life as a promiscious homosexual. Public figures who had sympathised with him distanced themselves and ceased their clemency calls that might have saved his life.

The Butterfly Seer is an Islamic Pilgrimage, a Philosophical Love Story, told through songs and poetic dialogue in a style based on the ancient epic narratives of Sumatra. An orphan mystic leads her village adherents into the sea beneath a swarm of heavenly butterflies in search of self-redemption. Do they drown or not? The ambiguous witness - an urchin street Clown and his Brahmin Bull, who follow for love not salvation. The evocative score by Adrian Sherriff is infused with influences from Sumatran Sufism to South Indian microtones to the robust, quirky jazz brass, giving expression to the tale's delicacy, vigour, humour and pathos.

Penned 20 years before Trainspotting and Snatch, Berkoff's hard hitting urban drama is a sharp, affectionate and funny expose of life in London's East End. Combining raw physical theatre and the intensity of language that veers from the sacred to the shatteringly profane, it bursts at the seams with both verbal and visual exuberance. Taking key scenes from the lives and recollections of his five characters, Berkoff builds a bleak portrait of stultifying ignorance, casual brutality and harsh sexual encounters.
