National Theatre
The theatre was built in 1920 and still retains its art deco foyers, grand staircase, barrel vaulting and auditorium.
The National Theatre functions as a community arts centre in a traditonal proscenium arch format. Our hiring policy is aimed to encourage smaller arts groups and artists, both professional and community. Due to the nature of the facilities offered and the size of auditorium (783 seats) the venue has been host to performances in recent years by Chamber Made Opera, Helen Herbertson, Lyric Opera of Melbourne, Lucy Guerin, MIFA, Paul Capsis, Chunky Moves to name but a few. The company provides a rare interface between community performance and professional standards.
The National Theatre offers a hiring package which incorporates a staffing, staging, sound and lighting component. The National Theatre will assist in every way to ensure that each season is a great success.
