Sunday Soapbox, the Arts Centre’s annual feast of conversation, performance and multi-media continues every Sunday afternoon from
now until to 8 October.
Curated by writer, broadcaster and arts journalist, Peter Clarke, each week a different topic featuring a panel of experts will be explored and dissected in front of an enquiring audience. Best of all its FREE, so come along, join in and get on your soapbox!

3 September: TOUGH JOURNEYS, AMAZING STORIES
Meet some of Melbourne’s many theatre and music performers from other lands and cultures and hear their stories of struggle and determination. How have they sustained and adapted their art forms in the often indifferent, even hostile context of their new home? Performances and storytelling combined with discussion make this a special reflective Sunday Soapbox. George Adams Gallery, 2pm

10 September: TRADITIONAL PERCUSSION TODAY
Contemporary musicians use traditional percussion instruments and sound textures widely in their compositions and performances. Many of these instruments have long histories in their original cultures and their rhythmic patterns have blended in the hybrid musical forms so notable in Melbourne’s music scene. See and hear a variety of traditional percussion instruments in a noisy and jammed-packed Sunday Soapbox. Hamer Hall, 2pm

17 September: THE ORGANISERS: MEET THE STAGE MANAGERS
Sitting in an audience enjoying large scale and elaborate theatrical performances such as opera, ballet or big musicals it is easy to forget the behind-the scenes crew and their myriad skills and expertise. Meet some of Melbourne’s most experienced and capable stage and production managers who ensure everything runs without a hitch. They have some wonderful stories of successes and near misses. 24 September: FULL TILT: SO MUCH TALENT!
Guest moderator, Vanessa Pigrum, artistic director of the Arts Centre’s Full Tilt program and formerly artistic director of the Melbourne Fringe introduces some of the remarkable Full Tilt artists. This is a rare opportunity to meet some of Melbourne’s top independent theatre and music makers as they discuss and perform segments of their work.
