Sally Bourne is Kidding Around
2nd Feb 2006
Having performed with Madonna, Judi Dench and Julie Andrews, Sally Bourne feels ready to tackle the most demanding diva of them all – her inner child.
“Everything today is so complex,” Sally says. “Life, relationships … celebrities dating habits! Remember when you were a child and it all seemed so easy – you ate dirt, you rode your bike without a helmet, you got so sun burnt you threw up … and no one batted an eye?”
In her new cabaret, KIDDING AROUND, expect to be entertained by Sally’s trademark self deprecating sense of humour and diverse choice of songs.
“It’s going to be an evening of fabulous songs; from Streisand to Sondheim, as well as stand up comedy and childish behaviour! I invite you to come along and join me in regressing and reassessing – and seeing if that inner child can be silenced once and for all,” she says.
Sally will be accompanied by Dean Lotherington on piano, fresh from Seriously in the Midsumma Festival.
Sally’s career began as a child star when she was cast in the title role of the original Australian production of Annie in 1978. She put Annie well and truly out of her misery when playing a young heroin addict in Prisoner.
Moving to the UK in 1991, Sally played Madonna’s maid in the film Evita, gave fashion tips to Julie Andrews when they worked together in Hey Mr Producer and performed for the Queen and many other queens since.
She became a regular and renowned performer in the West End (Jerry Springer the Opera, The Beautiful Game, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables), around the London comedy circuit, and in prestigious cabaret venues such as Pizza on the Park and at Jermyn Street Theatre. She recently returned home to Melbourne.
