Submissions now open for Short Sweet+Cabaret

Short Sweet+Cabaret will be held at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran from Thursday 12 to Sunday 22 November 2009.

To enter a submission, simply email a 100 word or less description of your 10 minute cabaret concept to david@shortandsweet.org together with your name, telephone number and a list of any props, technical and musical accompaniment requirements.

Great prizes can be won and costs such as venue, technical and piano accompaniment (if required) are provided. Individuals or groups can apply.

Submissions close on Monday 7 September. The program, judging panel and a complete list of prizes will be announced in mid October. Festival Director, David Read, said 'We encourage all forms of cabaret and are particularly looking for fresh but well thought-out ideas. Aside from great prizes, Short Sweet+Cabaret provides performers with the opportunity to showcase their latest work, and acts as a launching pad to recognition and further opportunities.' Short Sweet+Cabaret was first held at The Butterfly Club in South Melbourne in July 2008. To accommodate the festival’s growth Short Sweet+Cabaret has moved to the larger Chapel Off Chapel to be staged alongside the iconic Short Sweet+Theatre. 'We are very excited this year to be sharing a venue with Short Sweet+Theatre as it will create an extraordinary, vibrant festival of 10 minutes works across both genres,' David said.

Short Sweet+Cabaret is a participation festival with awards for 'Best Cabaret'; 'Runner-up' and 'People's Choice'. Prizes go with each award, including - A showcase performance to Australia's leading arts industry at the gala night of Short Sweet+Theatre on 6 December - course entry to Play Right Productions' Creating Solo Cabarets, valued at $480 - a season at The Butterfly Club - the opportunity to appear in the line-up of the 2010 Melbourne Cabaret Festival Short+Sweet Theatre Short+Sweet is the largest ten-minute play festival in the world.

Each year we showcase over 350 productions of ten-minute theatrical gems at festivals in Sydney, Melbourne, Central Coast, Singapore and Malaysia - and from September 2009 - Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide. In 2009 we will receive around 2000 script entries from writers across the globe. Our vision is simple - a more creative world - ten minutes at a time.
