Eagle’s Nest Theatre 2009 Season 1

With the Dark
Written by James Adler
Directed by Rosemary Johns

Auditions for With the Dark will be held on Wednesday 17th December 2008. Actors will be working from the script (cold) and/or some improvisation exercises set by the director on the day.  Actors are welcome to prepare a 2 minute modern audition piece or song for the audition, but it is not a requirement.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin early-mid January 2009 and will run right through until the season opens at the end of February 2009.  The rehearsal schedule is yet to be finalized but actors need to be available for daytime and nighttime rehearsals during the week and on weekends (not on a full time basis however).

The in-theatre season runs from February 25th – March 7th at Studio 2, Northcote Town Hall, and tours to schools in the following two weeks March 9th – March 20th.  PLEASE ENSURE YOU WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR WHOLE SEASON BEFORE APPLYING TO AUDITION.  The in-theatre season includes evening performances and matinees, and schools shows are daytime shows.  Exact details of in-theatre season will be available shortly, and schools shows times will be available at the start of rehearsals to allow actors enough time to slot shows into their schedules.

Payment is on a profit-share basis.

For expressions of interest please contact Kate Buttery kate@eaglesnesttheatre.com 0415 421 381.  Please indicate your preferred time slot for auditions (7pm-11pm in 15 min slots), but please note that while we will endeavour to give you your preferred timeslot, places usually fill very quickly and auditions will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

A bit about the play:
Written by Eagle’s Nest Theatre’s artistic director, James Adler, With The Dark tells the story of a contemporary young man on the verge of a breakdown is transported by his mind into the refuge of a poetic, simple, and yet didactic fairy tale land.  The places and people missing in his real life are present here. Most importantly he finds a little girl who has lost her grandma and needs his help.  Along the way he also rediscovers his own sense of self and identity.  This play explores the importance of simplicity, community and imagination as well as how much we all need the opportunity to feel like a hero.

Character breakdown:

Voice: A 20-30 male or female
Girl: must have a youthful nature but does not need to be played by a child
