THE BEAUTY SPOT is a new Australian musical written by David W. Young. In development for five years, it was presented as part of OzMade Musicals 2005 before being chosen for the Music Theatre Readings Program.
SYNOPSIS: Jane Fraser works at a television studio but she wants to be on screen. In a world where image is everything - what does a 'Plain Jane' do to get further up the ladder? Blackmail? Deceit? Having got her job at the studio by feigning a fake hand (and thus getting through on an anti-discrimination disability clause) it appears that her cunning can get her no further with the barrier of her looks. Enter Gregg Griggs and his team from THE BEAUTY SPOT, who provide Jane with the very thing she needs to catapult her towards success: beauty. Now armed with media's strongest weapon, Jane embarks on a mission to have all that she desires. But as Jane's beauty increases, so to does her ambition and her less beautiful personality traits. THE BEAUTY SPOT, a hilarious riot of ingenious lyrics with a world-class score, is a comical look at the impact of beauty on our society and our media. THE BEAUTY SPOT will be performed at Theatreworks, St. Kilda on May 22nd - 24th.
Rehearsals will begin on Sunday April 30th, with a preliminary call on Wednesday April 19th. The rehearsals will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights and on Sundays. A reasonable degree of availability is expected during the month of May.
AUDITION DETAILS: Audition Dates: Sunday 09 April (10:30am - 5:00pm) and Monday 10 April (5:30 - 10:30pm). Audition Requirements: - Specific audition requirements will be explained when confirming an audition time. As we have limited places for auditionees, and a very specific character breakdown, we may not be able to see every applicant that applies.
