Aphids is a strange creature: independent, non-profit, project-based and committed to artistic risk-taking behaviour. Aphids has been creating and producing collaborative performance projects that combine contemporary music and other art forms.
Based in Melbourne, Aphids began in 1994 with a project involving fashion designer Kathleen Banger, visual artist Sarah Pirrie and composer David Young.
Aphids also has a global perspective and undertakes international collaborations, exchanges and tours, working with artists from around the world.
In 2005 and beyond, Aphids continues to bring artists together to develop idiosyncratic projects that stretch the boundaries of contemporary arts practice.
“The Aphids are another facet cut into the theatrical gemstone.” - Herald Sun, Melbourne, October 2004
“The tiny intimate A Quarreling Pair by Aphids was a quiet revelation with its shifting weave of human and puppet, voice and soundscore.” - Realtime, February 2005
