Established in Melbourne in 1989, Born in a Taxi produces original physically based works for arts and street theatre festivals, performance seasons, tours internationally and performs at over 100 corporate events each year.
Company Style Improvisation is at the heart of Born in a Taxi’s work, allowing the company to create compelling performances in the moment. Diverse performance backgrounds have given the company a style that incorporates dance, theatre, mime, clowning and music.
The physical and generally non-verbal style of the work is distinctive, visual and often comical allowing accessibility to a wide and varied audience.

International touring highlights include: Oerol Festival, Theatre Festival Boulevard, Almelo, Hardenburg (NL), Chasspierre, Humourologies Loch Festival (B), Sziget (H), Cardiff, Brighton, Queens Jubilee, Manchester Commonwealth Games (UK), Umeda Festival (JP), Esplanade (SG), Melbourne International Festival, Perth International Festival. Indoor works include: The Potato Piece (Bodyworks, Dancehouse), Triptych (Theatreworks’ Initiative ), Burn The Rhubarb (Dancehouse), Osinato (Theatreworks), The Enormous Club (Black Box, Vic Arts Ctr). Not Dead Yet was a collaboration piece with Rawcus performed at Theatreworks for Melbourne Fringe 2005.
Workshops
Born in a Taxi has a comprehensive and unique working method, As artists who love to share their knowledge, the company offer workshops as a stand alone service, a residency or a practical accompaniment to the creation of indoor performances. Workshops explore improvisational group structures and dynamics as used by the company in devising and performing new work.
