Taken from the Greek word 'anthos', meaning bud, the name Anthos Theatre describes a creative process. Founded in 1998, Anthos Theatre pursues an approach to performance which privileges long-term creative collaborations between theatre artists.
The company's interrogation of the theatre form seeks to deliver work which is delicate and bold, leaving its audience courageous and inquiring.
Odyssey is Anthos' premiere production, and since 1998 has toured extensively throughout Australia including seasons at the Melbourne International Arts Festival (1998) and Adelaide Festival (2000). In 2001 Odyssey toured to Malaysia, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Odyssey, the company’s premiere production, was winner of the NZ Listener Award for Best Play in 2003.
Exploring universal themes of cultural reconciliation and hybrid identity Odyssey has been publicly and critically acclaimed.
