BalletLab
BalletLab is regarded as one of the most visionary choreographic companies working in Australia today.
BalletLab’s work has garnered critical acclaim positioning itself as a unique creative force amongst contemporary dance companies worldwide.
While retaining the essence and structure of theatrical dance techniques, BalletLab’s work pushes the boundaries of their performance context. Blending, juxtaposing and twisting classical, romantic, baroque and contemporary dance forms; BalletLab’s virtuosic creations invent movement vocabularies that reference contemporary culture. BalletLab’s meticulously conceived artistic creations range from exuberant, technically virtuosic ballets for proscenium arch theatres to highly sophisticated “boutique” works that can be experienced as performance installations.
BalletLab’s repertoire offers a world of ideas. The predicament of the unattainable is obsessively explored with reoccurring themes like universal phenomenon and the human plight with the ever after. The visual impact of the movement and the provocative conceptual–based imagery and design play equal parts within BalletLab’s unique choreography. BalletLab’s works seek to invoke a transformative and sensational experience for the audience, the art form, and the performer. Phillips dramatic and detailed choreography is strikingly contemporary in nature, yet implicitly classical in form. The imaginative works speak to a diverse, enthusiastic, loyal and artistically adventurous audience.

Since its inception in 1999, BalletLab has toured internationally, performing repertoire overseas in the USA, China, Scotland, Germany, England, Korea, Mongolia, Romania, Bulgaria at some of the most prestigious Festivals and venues.
