Formed in November 2001, Blackbird Productions is the brainchild of Matthew Henderson and Suzie Franke. They have a strong background in management and technical theatre having both worked in all facets of the industry across the board including dance, drama, musical theatre, opera, festivals and community theatre.

Over the past two and a half years Blackbird Productions have presented over seven productions and 10 seasons, including two Australasian premieres and three world premieres as well as commissioning two new works.

In 2005 Blackbird Productions, with the support of Playing Australia, Arts Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria, toured Australia Nationally with BPM beatsperminute visiting 40 venues and completing over 62 performances in 3 months.

In September 2005, Blackbird Productions were recognised for their work on the tour with four nominations at the annual Drover awards for National Touring, securing the award for ‘Road Crew Excellence’ at the awards ceremony at Old Parliament House in Canberra.

The company believes in supporting fresh and original work as well as giving an opportunity for Australian audiences to see works from around the world and home that may not normally get produced in this country.
