Tinkertown by nathaniel moncrieff
director tobias manderson-galvin
stage design eugyeene teh / costume design chloe greaves / lighting design rob sowinski
featuring rebecca mezei / steven kennedy / marilyn harris / cameron moore
on his first day out of prison in 10 years, chester decides to visit his teenage daughter, but when he accidentally shoots dead his ex-wife's sister, the visit turns into a kidnapping and he and his daughter race across the outback, getting to know each other, and getting the **** away from the cops.
shooting, kidnapping, running away, shooting, cheap dirty speed balls, jukeboxes, dancing, coked-out sex, alcoholism, stabbing, shooting, lusting, fields by a high way, running away, a car park, robbery, service stations, passing out, hotel room, a salt lake and a scarecrow.
you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your relatives, but sometimes you can kill them and sometimes you can kidnap them and then the cops can conduct an hour long chase scene after you through the harsh west australian desert.
Tinkertown is another australian gothic black comedy from the writer of Sleepyhead, nathaniel moncrieff and mka artistic director tobias manderson-galvin.
“the standards of the genre are all there: the imperilled young girl, the monstrous male, the fusing of psychology and environment, the return of the repressed, the descent into hysteria.” Realtime (on moncreiff’s Sleepyhead)
“manderson-galvin’s direction is snappy, rippling with incongruity and deflationary humour” The Age (on manderson-galvin’s 22shortplays)
Tinkertown plays as part of the MKA Double Bill with Hose
