Robots have taken control of the planet and executed most of the human race. Those who survived have been forced to work in mines. 

When Executive Bot writes a play, he drags Giles, a theatre director, out of the mines and orders him to direct a production for a robot audience.

Robots Vs Art Reviewed by Cameron Woodhead at Behind the Critical Curtain, 7 June, 2012

The word ‘robot’ comes to us from the theatre, first used in Czech playwright Karel Capek’s R.U.R. (1920).
