Malthouse Theatre

Malthouse Theatre is dedicated to developing and presenting a broadly defined program of contemporary Australian theatre; a theatre often conceived and created in collaboration between writers, directors, designers and perfor 

Malthouse Theatre aims to explode the narrow definition of theatre as narratively determined prewritten plays. It programs on its stages a broad spectrum of theatrical activity that places its emphasis on the performer and the audience experience, often drawing techniques from many disciplines including dance, opera, stand up, cabaret, and the visual arts. 

The CUB Malthouse complex houses three venues – from the 500 seat Merlyn Theatre and 200 seat Beckett Theatre, to the brand new 100 seat Tower Theatre, a vibrant café and bar, and Melbourne’s most iconically housed scenic workshop.
